Rami Malek to guest star on FOX’s “Alcatraz”

Some really great news everyone! Rami will guest star in the March 19th episode of FOX’s ‘Alcatraz’ as a former Alcatraz inmate who mysteriously reappears after having vanished for 50 years. The episode is entitled “Webb Porter” (which is Rami’s character’s name so hopefully that means he’ll be in it quite a bit!) Stills of Rami have been released, which you can view below as well as an official synopsis for the episode.

Rebecca, Doc, and Hauser set out to capture musically-inclined serial killer Webb Porter (guest star Malek), an unknown ’63 that returns more violent than ever in the all-new “Webb Porter” episode of ALCATRAZ airing Monday, March 19 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

WB halts production On “Akira” to re-work the script

Here’s an interesting tibit about ‘Akira’ (Rami tested for the role of Tetsuo):

As for “Akira,” which only has “Tron: Legacy” star Garrett Hedlund locked, the studio is by no means pulling the plug. Insiders say a new writer will probably be brought on over the next two weeks to focus on character elements and particularly on the pic’s look. While no one’s yet been offered the job, studio is eyeing Jonah Nolan (“The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises”) and Michael Green (“Green Lantern”).

WB prexy Jeff Robinov met with the “Akira” team to discuss several things, including who would land the second lead opposite Hedlund. Choices had been narrowed down to Michael Pitt and “Chronicle” star Dane DeHaan, but the studio wanted to wait until after the holidays to decide; now that decision will be delayed further.

It’s been a long string of stops and starts for a live-action “Akira,” in development since Warners acquired rights in 2008. Albert Hughes came on to direct last year, only to drop out. His replacement, Jaume Collet-Sera, then had to work with producers to slice the budget down to $90 million before its greenlight.

I finally got around to screencapping Rami’s latest role in ‘Larry Crowne’ and I have added 288 HD screencaptures to the gallery! This is my second favorite role of Rami’s, after ‘The Pacific’, so if you haven’t gotten a chance to see the film, I would highly recommend it. Rami Malek among actors testing for “Akira” role

According to THR, Rami is among several actors testing for the role of Tetsuo in the upcoming film Akira.

The big question now is who will play Tetsuo, the young man whose latent powers will release the powerful being known as Akira. Warners wants to have the question answered before Thanksgiving, with key screentests scheduled for Sunday and Monday.

Lining up to test are:

D.J. Cotrona (the Detroit 1-8-7 star who just wrapped the role of Flint in G.I.Joe 2: Retaliation), Logan Marshal Green (who appeared in the M. Night Shyamalan-produced Devil and will be seen in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus), Toby Kebbell (he caught the eyes of Warners execs with RocknRolla and is in War Horse), Richard Madden (Robb Stark in Game of Thrones), Rami Malek (appeared in The Pacific and has a supporting role in Twilight: Breaking Dawn—Part 2), and Michael Pitt (the breakout actor on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire).
